Here are several short video highlights of Grand Blanc’s big Playoff Win last night at The Frank!
Bobcats Tame The Dragons
Last week, the Bobcats had their final regular-season victory against the previously undefeated Saline Hornets. As a result, Grand Blanc just shot up to #20 in the Top 50 Michigan High School Football teams. Last night the playoffs began, the 2020 pre-district showdown and the 4th all-time meeting between the Lake Orion Dragons and the Grand Blanc Bobcats. Below is a summary of what happened.
To begin the game, Grand Blanc receives the Lake Orion kickoff and then are forced to punt on their first drive. Then the Dragons get the ball and score first on a 43 yard QB keeper by Kyler Carson. With 8 minutes left in the 1st quarter, Dragons lead 7-0. Later in the quarter, Kyler Carson passes to Jack Wellman for another Lake Orion Touchdown.
The Bobcats go on their first scoring drive late in Q1. To start the second quarter Dylan Hertzberg kicks a 24-yard field goal. With 10:37 left in the 2nd, Dragons now lead 14-3. Thanks to a touchback by Dylan Hertzberg, the Dragons begin the next drive on their 20-yard line. Later, it appears Lake Orion is going for it on fourth down but they attempt a punt instead that goes low and bounces back to their 49, where Sylvester Jones recovers it. The Bobcats and Dragons trade possessions and punts in the middle of Q2. Deep into quarter two, the Bobcats go on a nice scoring drive. To cap off the drive, Ty Brotebeck hands off to Dennis Underwood who runs 5 yards for a Bobcat touchdown! With 40 seconds left in the first half, GB now trails Lake Orion 14-10. Dragons retrieve the ball back at their own 32-yard line and followed by their punt going overhead and is recovered by the Bobcats defense deep in Lake Orion Territory with 6 seconds to go in the half. Just in time as the clock runs out, Ty Brotebeck finds Jonah Meleski, for an 11-yard Bobcat touchdown! Dylan Hertzberg scores on the PAT. Grand Blanc heads into halftime with a 17-14 lead over Lake Orion.
The 2nd half starts with Nasir McKenny forcing Lake Orion to punt and later making a big hit on the QB to force the 3rd down incompletion. It is Ethan Bales’ turn, who makes an amazing punt return. The Grand Blanc drive is successful and leads to a Dylan Hertzberg field goal. With 7:23 left in the 3rd, the Bobcats lead 20-14. Later, Sylvester Jones sacks the Dragons quarterback on 3rd down and forces them to punt. On Grand Blanc’s next possession, Lake Orion recovered a Bobcat fumble and took the ball. The third quarter ends with Nasir McKenny and Carson Baker stepping up big to make a 3rd down sack on the Dragon offense.
The Dragons start the 4th quarter by punting the ball and Jonah Meleski returns it and gets knocked out of bounds at the opposing 42. Later in Q4 the Bobcats fake the punt, Cross Dobbs takes the direct snap to score on a 77-yard Bobcat touchdown! With 6:30 left in the game, Grand Blanc expands the lead 28-14. With 2:30 left in the game, Peyton Edwards intercepted a Lake Orion pass. The Bobcats and Dragons defenses step up and no more scoring is allowed in the game. The final score is 28-14.
This was Grand Blanc’s first playoff victory since 2012. Next week they travel to Clarkston to take on the Wolves.
