Grand Blanc Pulverizes Powers 56-14

 

 

 

Below is our summary of the annual rivalry game between our Grand Blanc Bobcats and Powers Catholic High School. The Bobcats Defeat Powers 56-14. This was the 36th meeting between the Bobcat and the Chargers with The Bobcat’s last victory being in 2008.

The game begins with Powers winning the coin toss and then striking first on a 61 yard TD run. With 10:26 left in the first, Powers leads 7-0. Now in possession, the Bobcats gained some distance but are forced to punt by the Chargers defense. From Powers 27, the Grand Blanc defense forces the Powers offense to punt on a 3 and out. Now in possession, Jonah Meleski makes one of his trademark strong punt returns. Ty Brotebeck handoffs to Elijah-Jackson-Anderson who runs one yard for a Bobcat touchdown! With three minutes left in the first, Bobcats are tied 7-7. After Dylan Hertzberg’s kickoff, the Chargers respond quickly with a 79-yard run for a Powers TD! With 2:25 left in the first, Powers lead 14-7. Landon Brooks returns a squib kick by Powers and rumbles down to Powers 39. Following after, Ty Brotebeck goes on the quarterback keeper and runs 13 yards to a Bobcat touchdown! With two minutes left in the first, Powers still leads 14-13.

To start the second quarter, the Chargers stomp down the field, but a holding call freezes their drive. Grand Blanc defense holds their drive. Soon after, on the Bobcat 27 yard line, Ty Brotebeck finds Jaylen Johnson in the end zone for a Bobcat touchdown! With less than seven minutes left in the second quarter, the Bobcats take their first lead of the game 20-14. Following after, the Chargers manage to make a long run but were stopped on downs by the Bobcats defense. Ty Brotebeck hands off to Elijah Jackson-Anderson, who finds an opening and jets for an 83-yard Bobcat touchdown! With four minutes left in the first half, GB leads 26-14. The Chargers start a new drive but got forced to punt on a 3 and out by our Bobcats defense. Then Powers got a penalty and were forced to punt to Grand Blanc. Ty Brotebeck throws to Nathan Lynch, who throws it to a wide-open Jaylen Johnson for a 38-yard Bobcat touchdown! Less than 3 minutes in the half, Grand Blanc leads 33-14. The quarter ends with our multi-sport Junior athlete, Dylan Hertzberg, kicking the ball into the end zone for a touchback.

The second half starts with Powers trying the onside kick but Xavier Urqhart recovers at the Powers 15 yard line. The Chargers defense stiffens but the Bobcats, Dylan Hertzberg, kicks a successful field goal. Early in the third, GB leads 36-14. Later at the Powers 20, the Bobcats defense forces the Chargers to punt on a 3 and out. Then it is Stephan Brown’s turn, who has a nice punt return. Still, in GB possession, Dennis Underwood runs 15 yards for a 6-yard Bobcat touchdown! With 7:47 left in the third quarter, Grand Blanc extends its lead over Powers 42-14. Powers offense is forced to punt the ball again. Ty Brotebeck throws a screen to Jonah Meleski, who finds the end zone on a 20-yard Bobcat touchdown! With 5:45 left in the third, Grand Blanc is ahead 49-14 over Powers.

In the fourth quarter, Hunter Ames hands off to Gerren Jarbeau for an 18-yard Bobcat touchdown! With the game in hand for the Bobcats, the clock ran quickly during the fourth quarter. Bobcats Defeat Powers 56-14.

Next week, the Grand Blanc Bobcats have their final regular-season game against the Saline Hornets at The Frank.
