A Plea to Local Businesses

Introduction
I have a personal plea for all local business owners.  Before you spend another dime on your regular media spend, please ensure you take a few minutes to check the following:

  • verbally ask Siri and Google on your phone where is the best "what you do" near me?

  • type into google search on your phone best "what you do" "city your business is in"

  • type into Yelp app on your phone "what you do" "city your business is in"

  • do the same with Facebook on your phone

Cherish Local Gradient Heart LogoFor nearly 10 years I was traveling the country - being recruited to breathe life back into struggling media companies in Metro Detroit, MI; Wichita, KS; Springfield IL and Tucson, AZ. I never stopped researching and uncovering ways to help businesses show up in these kinds of searches WITHOUT spending thousands of dollars a month on expensive online display ads, SEM or SEO.  Much to my corporate owner's frustrations I tirelessly found affordable ways to help customers grow their businesses.  Purposefully ignoring orders to sell higher priced, less effective products resulted in the teams I was recruited to lead rising from the bottom of the company in results to the top....every time.

After decades of running upstream for corporations run by Hedge Funds who only care about the stock price, watching stuffed shirts put their customers last, and eliminating talented people for yes-men, I began a journey to open my own business that will become national through supporting local ownership.

The brutal truth is that the vast majority of media companies left local business owners behind.  I have been in meetings where this was a directive, a strategy.  The thought was if we were to focus more on the higher spending customers like Sears, Macy's, Walmart, Best Buy, etc., our stockholders would be happier because we could do this with fewer people. The smaller businesses were considered too much work and they cost too much to serve.  I ignored this lunacy and always focused on providing affordable and meaningful plans to the customers we served, which will continue to be our focus.

Before you commit that next dime to your "typical" monthly marketing spend ask yourself, is this plan truly positioning me for today's consumer and how they want to receive information?  How long has it been since my local marketing executives brought new affordable ideas, online marketing tactics with teeth, and proved helpful to my bottom line?

Cherish Local works 7 days a week to ensure our customers receive customized solutions that grow their businesses.  We take photos, videos, get to know your team and your customers.  We claim all search engines and pack them with information people want.  We help you get reviews and then help you respond to them.  We build you a mobile-friendly website, social pages, make social posts and promote them.  We provide promotions and, most of all, our customers CRUSH their competitors with their online visibility.  What we do is not easy, it takes work, it is NOT outsourced - we do it.  We love what we do and we work with each customer to provide a budget that is fair and provides a true ROI.  Every dollar stays in our communities; we shop where we live.  We create friendships with our customers built on trust and results.  Isn't that the way it's supposed to be?
